A surgical tech must have all his senses functioning perfectly. Usually, one would think that the only important thing for a person of this profession is intelligence. But the fact is, he must be very capable when it comes to reacting, hearing and listening, and seeing. His eyes must be able to catch the smallest of things, especially during surgery. Also, during a surgery procedure, a technician must assist the surgeon at all times. This implies hearing every single word the surgeon says- what he wants done, what instrument he needs, when he needs it, etc. When he hears an instruction, he must be able to react quickly, correctly, and capably. If he fails to do so, he can risk the life of the patient, and possibly his job as well. If he lets the tension of the atmosphere and the pressure get to him, then he cannot do his job as a technician properly. Therefore, a surgical technician must really stay on top of everything.
