- And your new resident DJ is... - Thu, 21 Aug 2008 00:33:01 GMT
DJ HEARSAY

As I no longer live in Bloomington and can no longer fulfill my obligations to Chapel Perilous as resident DJ, I have elected Brian to fill my shoes. He's a good guy, and I'm confident he'll rock the house -- after all, we're both from Granger, IN! Okay, well maybe that means nothing, but nonetheless I insist upon his excellence. He has been a great guest DJ for us in the past, and somehow I doubt that will change now that he has residency status. Hearsay FTW!
Please show some support at your next Chapel Perilous, which occurs on next Monday (the 25th)! And thanks of course to Brian, Matt and Lothair for their ongoing dedication and hard work -- you guys rock!!

- Freeze Etch setlist 07.21.08 + so long/farewell... - Tue, 22 Jul 2008 23:10:23 GMT
From 10:15-11:30 you heard...
Motor - "Unhuman" Moctan - "Fisting" Roxy Music - "More Than This" Magazine - "The Light Pours Out Of Me (single version)" Flying Lotus - "Parisian Goldfish" Haujobb - "Clockwise" Barry Adamson - "Flight" The Cure - "Siamese Twins" Virgin Prunes - "Baby Turns Blue" Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - "Lie Down Here (& Be My Girl)" Act - "Ping Pong" Underworld - "Holding the Moth" OTX - "Altered State of Consciousness" Oil 10 - "Happy Mondays" Wire - "The Agfers of Kodak" Reverend Horton Heat - "It's Martini Time" Colder - "Your Face" The Blue Nile - "The Downtown Lights"
...As some of you know (though perhaps not all of you), last night was my final night as resident DJ of Chapel Perilous, ending a two and a half year run with Chapel/Axis. My reason for leaving has to do with the fact that I am broke, am having to move at the end of this month (to South Bend), and am generally entering a new phase of my life and will be unable to sustain my responsibilities with Chapel. There is certainly a likelihood that I will be returning to spin on occasion, but that of course will hinge on my availability. There is also a possibility that I may even move back (perhaps even within a few months), but again, everything is very much up in the air for me right now and I make no promises.
So you're new resident DJ is.... well, we'll make that announcement once lordlothair, styossarian and I have arrived at a consensus and deem it appropriate to do so. For now, I'd just like to take the opportunity to thank each and every person involved in making Axis/Chapel happen over the years (that includes those of you with responsibilities as well as those of you who just came to dance), as it certainly filled a void in me for the past few years. It's been a blast.
-adam
P.S. Also, if you'd like to donate to the "Freeze Etch is confused and broke and virtually homeless" fund, I still have many CDs available. Just drop me a line if you want one.

Greetings all! You may have noticed a few changes in Axis' public profile(s) of late: please allow me to take the time to update everyone on the changes that have taken place.
Briefly: Different: the name The same: everything else
Axis of Evil has changed its name - but will still be bringing you the best in goth, industrial, ebm and dark dance.
As freeze_etch so astutely put it: "To anyone confused by the name change: The original founders of Axis have moved on to bigger and better things (i.e. both of them moved to Seattle), so the event is under new management. The name change simply reflects that fact -- rest assured your favorite club night (at least I assume it's your favorite!) has not gone anywhere."
We will miss carpe_jugulum as she starts a new chapter in her life in Seattle, and we wish both her and willowperson nothing but the best in their endeavours.
Please join us in welcoming lordlothair to the Axis/Chapel crew! freeze_etch will continue to honor us as resident DJ for the immediate future, and of course I'll be doing my best to keep everyone updated with online invites and the like.
In that vein, please be aware that we have a new Facebook group; all those not already invited should of course check out the event invite.
Our LJ group has also changed names; if you're reading this, you should now be following perilousbtown. Do not be alarmed. =p
Additionally, a new MySpace profile and group have been created to reflect the name change. An it please you, feel free to add us there as well to make sure you receive all the latest news and event invites.
Stay tuned for details regarding the website.

- Inquiry: "Carnival" Performers - Tue, 03 Jun 2008 02:30:21 GMT
I'm currently in the process of planning an event at the Starlite drive-in as part of the Dark Carnival Film Festival.
There are three aspects of the event: films (check), bands (check, including Ari Lehman's "First Jason"), and volunteer "performers."
We're looking for volunteer performers who are comfortable working within the facade of the ideas of early 20th century traveling carnivals and circuses, ie: bellydancers, snake charmers tattooed men siamese twins poi/fire spinners/eaters those who can walk on glass (or are willing to walk on SFX glass) those who are generally interested in "carnie" expressions/appearances
The evening will be flexible, with time to perform for small audiences, or on stage between performances. Ideally we'd like a minimum of two hours, and obviously the whole time will not be spent performing (more vignettes leading up to the film feature); we're very flexible to people's needs. Though the positions are voluntary, we can work out free passes + free food/drinks + swag bags.
This event is going to be totally amazing; the drive-in was absolutely one of the most fun and well-received events last year, and we'd like to make this year huger and more amazing.
If you or anyone you know would be interested in this, please contact Ashley at info [@] darkcarnival film fest [dot] com

You played a huge role in getting this thing started, and we'll continue to honor that legacy as long as possible. Good luck in Seattle and beyond.

As many of you know, I'm moving to Seattle next week and will no longer be promoting Axis of Evil.
lordlothair, styossarian, and freeze_etch will be managing Bloomington's dark dance scene from this point forward, though I will occasionally still be around online to assist with logistics.
Thanks to everyone who has made the last two and a half years of Axis of Evil a huge, undeniable success. Also, many thanks to those of you who danced with me last night. I had to excuse myself from the floor to dab my eyes a few times. It was a really fantastic night for me and I hope it was for you, too.
I hope you'll stay in touch with me, and that Bloomington's dark community will continue to be one of the finest in the Midwest. You guys rock.
Any questions/comments can be left here or directed to axis.of.evil.bloomington at gmail dot com.
Many thanks!
